Who we are
The West Kootenay Early Years Council is a collaborative of early years professionals, organizations and community coordinators, who work together to support initiatives that provide all West Kootenay children with a good start in life.
The council is coordinated by the West Kootenay Early Years Office, a program of the Kootenay Boundary Community Services Co-operative. Our Community Councils are located in: Nelson, Castlegar, Trail, Kaslo, Salmo, Nakusp, the Slocan Valley and East Shore.
Working together, we provide leadership and promote collaboration among a broad range of community partners who support families, children, early childhood development, care and learning in the region.
Our local initiatives are made possible through provincial funding from Success By 6 and Children First.
- Success By 6 strengthens communities across BC by supporting Early Years Councils and Aboriginal Early Years Councils throughout the province; as well as by funding programs that build child- and family-friendly communities. Success By 6 is a partnership of United Ways, Credit Unions of BC, and the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD).
- Children First initiatives are funded by the MCFD to support community-based services for children up to 6 years of age and their families. Children First initiatives are community-driven and support early child development through partnership and collaboration.
